Patagonia Camp Cup – Trail Running & Party is a renowned event organized by the Patagonia Camp Hotel, located a few kilometers from Torres del Paine National Park, in the Magallanes region of Chile.
This fantastic natural environment, located at the southern tip of South America, has the perfect setting for adventure tourism, thanks to its impressive and contrasting terrain, but what is this race all about?
Adventure tourism, in its various forms, is gaining followers around the world.
Patagonia has become a favorite destination for adventure enthusiasts looking for an adrenaline rush. This isn’t by chance; the region’s diverse landscape offers a wide range of sports opportunities. The scenarios here are varied and demanding, with weather conditions that can change throughout the day, providing a constantly evolving adventure.
One of the most popular sports in this region is trail running. Adventurers are drawn to the magic of Patagonia by running through trails filled with obstacles like roots, mud, puddles, rivers, and fallen trees.
Trail running replaces asphalt with nature, traversing hills, mountains, gorges, deserts, and icy areas. This sport demands endurance, concentration, and caution. It involves a higher caloric expenditure, varying intensities (sometimes requiring walking), and a greater emphasis on strength, particularly in the glutes and hamstrings. To prevent injuries, specialized training is essential.
As described by trainers in this discipline, trail running is a “pleasure not to be missed.” It combines adrenaline with moments of solitude, silence, and a profound connection to the imposing natural landscape—ultimately providing emotional peace.
Our hotel created and organized the first Patagonia Camp Cup in May 2016. By 2023, the race celebrated its 6th edition.
The Patagonia Camp Cup is unique in that it takes place during the fall season in Patagonia, offering participants the chance to run through a vibrant native forest of lenga and coihue trees, against the backdrop of snow-capped mountain ranges, blue and turquoise lakes, and the majestic Paine mountain range.
Every end of the season, Patagonia Camp Hotel celebrates with an exciting Trail Running race on the trails of the property, which has 3 distances: 15K, 21K and 42K.
Note of interest: When we talk about “season” in Torres del Paine, we refer to a period of nine months from September to May.
The Patagonia Camp Cup program includes accommodation in exclusive Yurts, fully equipped with central heating, an en-suite bathroom, and a private terrace. In addition, the program is designed to allow runners and their companions to enjoy excursions in Torres del Paine National Park, with exclusive activities such as hiking and kayaking, all while being part of this unique event.
The Patagonia Camp Cup aims to offer participants a distinctive experience by fostering intimate contact with the natural environment of Torres del Paine. The event promotes environmental care, encourages healthy living, and integrates Magellanic traditions. It is organized with high technical and safety standards.
