How to get to Torres del Paine by plane

Flying is the most practical way to reach Torres del Paine, whether you’re traveling from abroad or already within Chile. However, once you land, you will need to continue your journey by road to reach the park entrance.

There are three nearby airports to consider: one airport and one aerodrome in Chile, and an international airport in Argentina. Your choice will largely depend on the season and how much time you would like to spend traveling by land—a journey that promises spectacular scenery along the way.

If you would rather leave all the logistics behind once you arrive, Patagonia Camp offers programs that include land transfers, allowing you to relax and enjoy beautiful accommodations from the moment you land.

No matter what you choose, here are all the available options to help you plan your trip.

Traveling by plane: Santiago to Punta Arenas

This is one of the most popular options for international visitors, thanks to the convenient connectivity and frequent availability of flights.

Santiago, the capital of Chile, serves as the main gateway to the country, boasting a modern international airport. Punta Arenas, on the other hand, is the principal city of Patagonia and a key logistical hub for exploring the region, including Torres del Paine National Park.

From Santiago’s airport in Pudahuel, you can catch a direct flight to Presidente Carlos Ibáñez del Campo Airport in Punta Arenas. The flight takes approximately 3 hours and 30 minutes, though layovers may extend the duration to up to 5 hours.

Once in Punta Arenas, various ground transportation options are available to take you to Puerto Natales, a journey of around 3 hours and 30 minutes by road to the bus terminal.

For a more comfortable and hassle-free experience, Patagonia Camp offers regular transfers between Punta Arenas and Patagonia Camp as part of our stay programs. You can find more details about our services [here].

After covering the 250 km to Puerto Natales, you’ll arrive at the starting point for most tours and trips to Torres del Paine National Park.

Flights from Santiago to Puerto Natales

Puerto Natales is the closest urban center to Torres del Paine and serves as the gateway to several natural wonders at the southern tip of the world. As a result, direct flights from Santiago are a popular choice for travelers.

This air route is available year-round, though the highest frequency of flights occurs between September and April, coinciding with the region’s milder climate and the high season for visiting the park.

Finding an airline that fits your schedule and budget is easy, with options like Sky Airlines, LATAM Airlines, and JetSmart offering the most flights to Puerto Natales. The direct flight from Santiago to Teniente Julio Gallardo Aerodrome takes approximately 3 hours and 15 minutes, while flights with stopovers may take about an hour longer.

If you prefer an all-inclusive experience, Patagonia Camp offers stay programs that include regular transfers to and from Puerto Natales, ensuring a seamless and stress-free journey.

For independent travelers, a quick 11-minute taxi ride from the aerodrome will take you to the Puerto Natales bus terminal. From there, you will find numerous tours and buses heading to different entrances of Torres del Paine National Park, including the main access point, Laguna Amarga.

Bus schedules and tour frequencies depend on the season. During the high season, there are typically two to three daily departures. The journey to Laguna Amarga takes around 2 hours, followed by additional stops at Pudeto, Camping Pehoé, and Hotel Lago Grey, completing a total trip of approximately 4 hours.

Whether you opt for convenience or adventure, Puerto Natales is the most practical destination to begin your unforgettable journey to Torres del Paine.

Flight from Puerto Montt to Torres del Paine

In addition to the options with international connections in Santiago, there’s a third choice: a domestic flight from Puerto Montt to Punta Arenas, or, if conditions allow, to Puerto Natales.

If you’re traveling through southern Chile, this can be an ideal alternative to extend your adventure into an unforgettable experience.

Puerto Montt is the largest city in the south of Chile and serves as a gateway to Patagonia. It’s the last major urban center before reaching the more remote areas of the region, with a well-connected airport and seaport. From Tepual Airport, you can take a direct domestic flight of approximately two hours to either Punta Arenas or Puerto Natales.

Upon arrival in either city, you will be just a short distance from Torres del Paine!

On the other hand, if you are looking to get to Torres del Paine from Argentina, the international airport in El Calafate is a popular alternative. From El Calafate through the Don Guillermo border crossing, you can then connect by land to Puerto Natales.

Travel from El Calafate to Torres del Paine

Traveling from El Calafate to Torres del Paine is a popular route for reaching the park.

El Calafate, also known simply as Calafate, is an Argentine city served by the international Comandante Armando Tola Airport. It can be accessed from Argentina’s capital or from international destinations, depending on availability.

The journey from the airport to Puerto Natales spans approximately 350 kilometers and includes a border crossing at Don Guillermo in Cerro Castillo. You can check the status and conditions of the crossing on the Argentine and Chilean complex websites.

Overland travel takes about 4 hours and 30 minutes, with border control typically quick and straightforward. The route on the Chilean side is well-maintained and offers stunning views—perfect for stopping to capture the scenery. You will need to arrange transportation to complete the journey.

For a hassle-free experience, all Patagonia Camp Hotel programs include regular transfers to and from Cerro Castillo. If you require transportation from El Calafate as well, we can arrange it for an additional cost.
